Scholarship through Leadership

St. Elmo Elementary School openly welcomes all of our children and parents. The faculty and staff consider it an honor and privilege to serve the Irvington community. It is our constant endeavor to meet the individual needs of our children.

Innovative initiatives and instructional strategies are used to meet the needs of our students. St. Elmo is an Alabama Reading Initiative Site. Best practices of the initiative emphasize instruction that is driven by individual student needs. Instructional strategies address specific needs of our children. Students also participate in the Reading Renaissance program which develops individual reading strengths through an emphasis on independent student reading at appropriate levels.

In addition, St. Elmo Elementary is an Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Site. This innovative child-centered approach to teaching math, science, and technology incorporates hands-on, inquiry-based instruction with an emphasis on higher-order thinking through math discourse. Students confront problem-solving through the use of manipulatives. Math and science lessons engage students in activities which are exciting and challenging.

St. Elmo is a Leader in Me  school. The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model that works like the operating system of a computer. The Leader in Me improves the performance of all other programs. Based on The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the 21st century economy. Our students develop leadership skills which will enhance individual scholarship and life skills.

The faculty and staff of St. Elmo want our children, parents, and community to know we appreciate all of your diligent work which helps ensure student success. As we each help open the doorway of success for the children of St. Elmo, know that we are here to support each child's needs. Our philosophy is that "Every single thing you do matters. You have been created as one of a kind. You have been created to make a difference. You have the power within you to change the world."

Thank you for all that you are doing for St. Elmo Elementary and our community.

With Gratitude,

Deborah Fletcher
